I was 12. 5 feet 5 inch.
First week of high school.
A strange husky voice.
It was going to only go one way….
Him 6 feet 1 inch
Bullied by him… yes….
Did I get a bleeding and bulging black eye?
I think he was unhappy with his life so he needed attention to bully he. He apologised. He became a friend. Damn, I need to have a bit of hatred in me, but I respected his courage to apologise.
He needed more guts to do that then to just punch me.
My voice trained me to grow my own confidence. I stood out from the crowd. An outsider. I always needed to pick up my courage to as the crowd.
Confidence have been my only ally. TED has been my only ally to learn and give speech to a large crowd.
An uploaded library of 100’s of inspiring talks. If you were to watch every single talk, 8 hours everyday….it will take you a full 1 week to watch all the videos.
Transcripts of 1.3 million words with over 2 million people have rated these talks.
The talk allows people to not worry but wonder.
2 million people??? Simply means the speakers have super speaking skills. There are videos who have great ratings and some …. Not to high!
So old on, isn’t there a ways of building a formula to work out which topic, delivery with words and the visual that build for excellent talks???
This is exactly what Sebastian Warnicke did. He worked out exactly what content is needed that makes for an ultimate TED Talk….and the worst.
Topics and words
You have to think carefully what the topic of the talk should be! There is a vast range…but should choose wisely. Relate the topic to what you want the users to react to your talk!
To make it more concrete, lets look at the list of top 10 most favourate words, in green and the least favourite!
So you could say, TED is favourite for talking about hoe French coffee spreds happiness in your brain!
The least is:
“So, my project involves girls, aircraft and oxygen….” Something I personally I would be curious to hear is, this was exactly someone talk subject.
Now if you generalize this, the most favorite TEDTalks are those that feature topics we can connect with, both easily and deeply, such as happiness, our own body, food, emotions.
And the more technical topics, such as architecture, materials and, strangely enough though, men, those are not good topics to talk about.
When giving a talk, hasn’t everyone wondered, what should the length of the talk shoul be?
However, after setting the length, no one really wonders…Why should I make it this long!
After researching a week long videos of professional talks, we have the answer, the correlation between the what length of your talk should be to make the topic most effective!
So sometimes, with the right topic…it’s best to just keep talking!
“4 word phrases”
Now, as you give the most impressive talk, you should be very careful on how you deliver phrases.
Comparing the statistics from the 4 word phrases, there are ways to deliver your content and there are not! The green phrases were repeatedly used in popular talks, and the red… well, less liked in a kind way to put it.
It’s better to say “you don’t have to” then ordering “you’re going to”.
It also seem better to fake intellectual capacity. If I don't understand something, I can just say, "etc., etc." You'll all stay with me, they will stay with you, It's perfectly fine.
Audences eye…first drops on the speaker…. There are favourite speakers, everyone loves them. Their looks had something in common!
Just grow your hair a bit longer, wear glasses and dress-up little more then average. PERFECT!
It’s important to focus of props and the mood on the stage. Colour plays a very important role.
Colour closely correlates with the ratings that talks get on the website
Fascinating talks contain a statistically high amount of exactly this blue colour
To present ingenious talks, much more this green colour.
So, knowing that….guess, it the most popular Ted talk, did he do any research on this colour scheme?
